Our talented team of scientists, engineers, genealogists, historians, and storytellers is dedicated to empowering customers around the world from all backgrounds on their journeys of personal discovery.

Passionate about dedicating your work to enriching people's lives? You belong at Ancestry.

Ancestry is seeking an exceptional, passionate, and motivated Staff Quality Engineer to join our Testing Center of Excellence team in Lehi, UT. The TCoE team is a critical cross-enterprise team responsible for promoting best practices, tools, and standards for Ancestry's development teams, including 35+ Quality Engineers (plus off-shore). As a Staff Quality Engineer, you will actively engage with teams to continually improve Ancestry's testing practices. In this role, you will build testing frameworks and mentor others across the entire organization to develop a Quality First culture.

You will...

  • Evangelize and train people and teams on best practices in testing. Be a strong advocate of QA in cross-functional settings
  • Create new and evolving quality and testing concepts, capabilities, and practices, drawing upon industry best practices
  • Mentor, empower, and coach members of the broader QA organization (you also listen and learn to find and scale what is working)
  • Influence change: work with testers, managers, product owners, and at times directors, helping them understand and adopt practices leading to high quality and increased speed of innovation for teams
  • Design, develop and test tools to benefit the quality engineers and developers
  • Keep up with evolving industry standards and best practices for Test Automation
  • Analyze and resolve technical related issues from other teams for their automated tests
  • Be an important part in owning the research, evaluation, deployment and upgrades for 3rd party tools (e.g., SonarQube, Sauce Labs, TestRail)

Who you are...

  • Self-directed and comfortable dealing with some ambiguity: proactively identify areas for continuous improvement, and then take action
  • A test evangelist - a regular influencer of others at all levels around best practices in testing
  • Experience in standardizing best practices
  • Experience leading and driving end-to-end, cross-team testing
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline required
  • 5+ years development experience in one or more programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • 7+ years of testing and test automation experience: broad and deep/solid experience in best practices for quality and testing, with a drive to keep learning and applying more
  • Experience in testing multi-tier applications and services, Reactive Web, Micro Service and Business Tiers, the Data Tier, and Mobile
  • Extensive experience with Integration and End-to-End testing principles, practices and tools, in context of Agile Development practices
  • Experience with Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools
  • Working knowledge of Selenium and Sauce Labs
  • Experience with debugging, performance profiling and optimization
  • Experience with AWS and the risks involved in delivering reliable and resilient systems in a cloud environment preferred
  • Docker and Kubernetes experience
