Job Description Job Description Position: Maintenance Worker III Department: Public Works Pay Range: $27.50 to $37.12 per hour based on experience and qualifications Status: Full-time, Non-exempt Open Date: January 12, 2026 Closing Date: January 22, 2026 POSITION SUMMARY: Works under and in close coordination with the Water, Storm Water, or Streets Manager as well as the Field Supervisor. The Maintenance Worker III (MWIII) operates various tools and pieces of equipment in the maintenance or upkeep of streets, storm drainage, and water systems. The MWIII is expected to participate in employment trainings and certifications that will improve their understanding of practices and regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list, additional tasks may be assigned as needed. Receives assignments from the Water, Storm Water or Streets Manager as well as the Field Supervisor. Works as part of a crew to plan, coordinate, and complete assignments. Follows established guidelines, policies, and regulations as they pertain to safety. OSHA and department specific safety requirements will be complied with. Operates dump trucks and equipment in snow removal and other operations. May perform various maintenance duties as required, such as cleaning debris, repairing streets, and assisting in the installation and/or repair of water lines, including laying drain pipe to grade. Use computers, phones, tablets, and other hardware/software to plan, track, log, document, and map various work activities. Performs other duties as assigned; may be on call during assigned periods and/or holidays. Occasional hours outside of normal shift (nights, weekends, holidays) responding to emergencies, as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent Experience in the operation of dump trucks and other equipment. Class A CDL (or the ability to obtain within 90 days) is required. Experience with road maintenance, pipe work and repair, water sampling, and general construction practices is desired. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the safe operation of dump trucks, heavy equipment, and other tools/equipment. OSHA requirements. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, perform heavy manual labor, and work effectively as a crew member and with the public. Skilled in communication (professionally and appropriately) with co-workers, contractors, residents, and others that would be encountered during the course of carrying out City business. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Utah Commercial Driver's License (or the ability to obtain it within 90 days) and be deemed insurable and able to operate city-owned equipment and vehicles. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Use of the following (but not limited to): dump trucks, excavators, loaders, saws, grinders, sweepers, vac-trucks, hammers, wrenches, drills, welders, jackhammers, backhoes, shovels, asphalt rollers and graders, levels, computers and GIS/GPS equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee works near moving mechanical parts and operates equipment or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately noisy when in the field. May be required to work in inclement weather conditions.
